empowerHER at Challenge Rocks

empowerHER is a non-profit organization started by Cara Belvin, for young girls who have lost their mothers.  Belvin, who had lost her mother at a young age herself, had always wished she could spend time with other girls who understood what it was like growing up without a mom. As Belvin grew older, she realized she could make her dreams happen for other young girls; “My vision for empowerHer was, really, these events that would have low pressure. They would be relaxed, and the girls would be comfortable and come together in very sort of easy-breezy events like cooking classes and writing classes and beach parties and a sleepover on Mother’s Day weekend.”

empowerHER's mission is:

empowerHER supports young girls who have experienced the early loss of their mothers. By creating enhanced experiences surrounding our events, the organization instills confidence and reduces feelings of isolation through a community of sisterhood that offers hope to each of the girls we serve.

About the empowerHER event at Challenge Rocks

empowerHER had reached out to Challenge Rocks to do a group event - an event where girls and mentors could get together, have fun, and try climbing!  At Challenge Rocks we were thrilled to be able to host an event for such an incredible organization and knew that we could make it a huge success!  The event started with some instruction, and then went right to climbing!  Some of the girls had lots of climbing experience while others were a little more cautious making their way up the wall.  The entire event was filled with laughter, cheering, and motivational words.  After everyone had tried climbing, some girls tried other American Ninja Warrior obstacles at Challenge Rocks, such as the warped wall, salmon ladder, cargo net & traverse rings.  By the end, most of the girls were sweaty, with great memories made and smiles were worn by all.
